Jan (June) Tuttleman, Co-Founder and Founding President, Women Give San Diego (WGSD) was a great warrior for justice and philanthropy.

Jan was a thoughtful philanthropist and inclusive community leader, who always did more than write a check. She rallied others to co-create, engage, support and lead the efforts that she initiated. Her deep Jewish faith and devotion to her daughters—and to all daughters—inspired Jan to be a leader on issues affecting women and girls and in serving the Jewish community.

As Founding President of San Diego Jewish Women’s Foundation, and Past President, Jewish Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy, Jan believed in solid research, thorough analysis, strategic planning. She believed in building strong organizations in addition to supporting strong leaders.

Jan lived her life in community. And she approached her philanthropy that way, joining forces with Gayle Tauber and Linda Katz to Co-Found Women Give San Diego, a unique donor circle under the banner of the Women’s Foundation of California.

Jan was a person of tremendous talent and epitomized leadership. Her altruistic dedication to helping those who cannot help themselves truly made her a hero, and an exemplary human being. It was never enough for her to empathize with a bad situation; she went out into the community and made a difference. Jan was a loving soul with a generous heart who made our world, and our community, a better place.

Jan leaves a long legacy within the San Diego community and beyond as a visionary leader, philanthropist, scientist, entrepreneur, angel investor, human rights champion, and mentor. We thank Jan for her deep commitment to women and girls, for her leadership, for the ways she brought others in – for her legacy. Jan’s legacy continues through Women Give San Diego. Jan’s compassion and tenacious spirit will continue to shine through the glorious impact WGSD members have today – and every day.
