It’s been another banner year for Women Give San Diego, as pooled philanthropy from its members will allow the Grants Team to recommend $100,000 in grants late this Spring. This would be the most we’ve ever provided during a grant cycle in the history of Women Give.
An update on this year’s process…
Women Give leadership came together in 2014 to identify ways that we could streamline and simplify the grantmaking process, for both grantseekers as well as Grants Committee members. We decided to drop the Letter of Inquiry from the process and instead work with the Women’s Foundation of California who was able to identify targeted organizations that fit our current grantmaking focus. That focus: interventions that have been shown to be effective in raising low-income women and working poor women out of poverty in San Diego.
Before the holidays, we invited a dozen organizations to submit full proposals for consideration. The Grants Team will meet in February to discuss these proposals and decide on the grantseekers who will move on to the site visit process. Members will conduct 3-5 site visits in February and March, and then gather once more as a team to make grant recommendations.
The best part of the grantmaking process is the grants celebration meeting, in which WGSD members will get to hear firsthand from our latest batch of grant recipients and hand over the checks! Trust us, this is an evening that cannot be missed!
